Date
April 2023
Objective: Troubleshoot and diagnose the engine overheating issue, removing and replacing the water pump to return engine operation to OEM specifications.
Situation: After overheating alarms were displayed on the dashboard of a BMW, the customer limped the vehicle home. After being quoted upward by ~$10,000 from the BMW dealership, the customer sought a cost-effective solution with the same dealership workmanship.
Solution: With the vehicle in the owner’s parking area, the car was jacked off the ground, allowing for greater access to the water pump. During the observation of all hazardous waste disposal procedures, the coolant was drained and properly disposed of. The faulty water pump was then removed, and a test was conducted to confirm the diagnosis failure point.
Result: After replacing the water pump, refilling, and repriming the coolant system, the vehicle resumed operation under OEM specifications with no sacrifice in quality.
